2012 California Strawberry Festival

29th Annual California Strawberry FestivalThe 29th annual California Strawberry Festival is expected to draw thousands of people this weekend. Saturday already saw huge crowds, from local residents to those travelling long distances to the city of Oxnard where the festival is held.

Parking at festival grounds is $10, but shuttles at designatedLarge Crowds stops throughout the city offer visitors free transportation to and from the festival. Tickets may be purchased at the gate or online at the Strawberry Festival’s website. A $1 convenience charge is applied for tickets purchased online.

Berry CupsOnce inside, the festival offers a little bit of everything for everyone. For the children, a caterpillar roller coaster, bungee swinging, face painting, and even a live show featuring anythingStrawberry Beer from clowns dancing on stage to storytelling. For the adults, several alcohol serving tents throughout the park that offer a chance to taste strawberry margaritas, strawberry/raspberry beer, and strawberry wine. Strawberry smoothies are offered for those that do not wish to indulge in alcoholic beverages.

Live performances grace the stage where the warm sunny weather and great music makeLive Performance many in the crowd get up and dance. Nothing short can be said of Strawberry Shortcakethe food served at this year’s festival. An entire section of the park is dedicated solely to food vendors. Visitors can taste some Jamaican food, eat tacos and nachos, strawberry pizza, churros, and many more. There’s even a make-your-own strawberry shortcake station.

Boxes of StrawberriesIf you’re looking to pass on all of the strawberry based creations the festival has to offer, you’ll be happy to know that plain old strawberries are sold, and boy are they sweet. People can be seen snacking on strawberries throughout the park, while others, carry loads of boxes containing Oxnard strawberries back to their cars orChocolate Covered Strawberries shuttle. Chocolate covered strawberries are a crowd favorite, and if you don’t mind paying a little more out of your pocket, you an purchase these delights to give as a gift for that special someone.
