Back on the Job

Today was my first day back on the job since the accident and I thought I would write a bit about it to serve as a quick update. First of all, I was a bit nervous about driving 45 minutes to an immigration Rally in Oxnard. I drove with extreme caution and I made it safe and sound. The story however, did get complicated when I learned the marchers decided to hop on a train and join a bigger rally in Los Angeles. Eventually, we got out story and even made room for some tortas at the Cinco de Mayo festivities. Needless to say, it was a long day of driving. My soreness is practically gone. I did start wearing worker’s gloves because I want to take care of the my cuts as much as possible. The cuts are healing nicely.
I was happy to see everyone I work with on the weekend. I still space out sometimes, and during those times images of the crash replay in my mind. I think my physical wounds are near healed but my psychological wounds have a long road to recovery. I trust and hope the station takes care of their people and vehicles better. In any case, I talked with John yesterday and he is doing fine, which makes me feel better although I still worry about him. He is still not in the clear until after his doctor conducts some tests. On my end, I hope to get cleared next week when I attend my follow-up appointment with the doctor.
One of the things I really wish for is that I get to meet those people, especially that woman, that helped John and myself immediately after the accident. My extreme gratitude goes to those people who stopped, with traffic behind them, and helped. There are great and caring people in this world. An accident like this really puts my life into perspective. IT has taught me how to appreciate life more, and that when someone is in need of help, one cannot turn their backs and look the other way. I cannot forget these people who came to our rescue that day and I only hope one day I will get to meet them again under happier circumstances. Thank you all for your prayers and get-well wishes.
