After a lengthy career that spans over 33 years from the United States Air Force to firefighter, Mike Schuit is retiring from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
Schuit began his career with the Santa Barbara City Fire Department back on September 15, 1977 where in 1990 he was promoted to A Shift Truck Engineer. During Schuit’s career, he instructed in numerous recruit academies, department wide USAR classes and was a shift driving instructor. Throughout his career, Schuit responded to numerous emergencies, some which include the Sycamore Canyon Fire, Chrysler Plymouth, Stearns Wharf, Southern Hotel, Bob’s Canvas, Paint, Tea and Jesusita Fire.
Schuit is an avid artist who plans to take graphic design courses and continuing his artwork after he retires as he spends more time with his family. His last shift is today.
