Through the years of dealing with many different cell phone companies, my knowledge of how phone bills work has increase dramatically. I always seemed to be getting charged more than what I had signed up for. Of course, a great contributing factor in a higher phone bill are the taxes, local and state. However, there are other factors that result in your phone bill being higher than expected. Here are ten of the most common phone bill problems:
1. Billing Date. This can vary from company to company, but it is always going to be associated with a given billing cycle. If you are not clear on when your cycle ends it can make the cost confusing when you add any new services. You can always contact the phone company to get an explanation.
2. Due Date. Knowing when your bill is due can be as important as knowing how long the billing cycle is. Though the date should be noted on the bill, if you have any questions about it, then calling the phone company should provide a solution. This is also a good opportunity to ask option different payment options available.
3. Cost Of Changing Service. If you add some new services to your bill, they will usually be billed one month in advance. You will want to remember this when ordering such services so that you aren’t taken by surprise at the large increase in your next bill. Be sure to ask actually what increases in cost to expect on that next bill when ordering the services.
4. Collect Calls Fees. The fee at times for collect calls may see very high on your phone bill. But the charges are not necessarily determined by your phone provider. The companies that handle those fees for the phone number being used to make the call to you may be a different carrier and thus have different rates from your carrier.
5. Fluctuations In State And Local Taxes. The amount you pay will be based on the amount of your phone charges. If your phone usage varies from month to month, then the taxes you pay will always change. These taxes are based on a certain rate that remains constant and will increase and decrease based on how much your other phone charges are.
6. Late Charges. It is very important to know how much the fee is if you must be late in paying your bill. You can check with the phone company to get the cost in advance if needed to determine the amount. You will want to add this late fee charge to the cost when you pay the bill.
7. The PIN Number. Each account is issued a personal identification number that you need to use when contacting the phone company. It is their way of making sure you are the actual customer. The pin number is on your bill as part of the account number. If you are unsure of where to find your pin number on your billing statement, you can contact the phone company to gain that information.
8. The Bill Seems Too High. At times you might feel your bill is too high. There are many things relative to charges that can contribute to the bill. A review and comparison of one bill with the next may help to identify what part of the bill was different. Then you can call the phone company for an explanation on why these costs have increased.
9. Means Of Paying The Bill. Every phone company will allow you different means to pay your bill. This may include paying it on line, over the phone or other means they may offer besides by mail. If your bill doesn’t include the details regarding these different payment options, you can call your service provider for the specifics.
10. Delays In Rebates And Credits. When you are due a given rebate it may come from some other office than the one you have locally. They may have special requirements that can take time to fulfill. It is important to get all the information about the timing of rebates when you apply for them. Sometimes you will have to follow up with the phone company and make sure you get the right department to contact in order to get your rebate finalized.
The best way to deal with any problems is with information. That may require spending a few minutes contacting the phone company, but in the long run with a little patience and perseverance you can generally get the help you need.
